FDA 2014 Food Safety Challenge: Grand Prize Winner Purdue University
The 2014 FDA Food Safety Challenge is a call to submit concepts applying novel methodologies to foster revolutionary improvements in foodborne pathogen detection. Specifically, concepts should apply cutting-edge techniques to achieve significant improvements in the speed of the FDA's detection methods for Salmonella with idetnification to the subtype/serovar level in miminally processed fresh produce. Two CFSE technologies were among the top 5 finalists: teh portaby system for multiplexed detection of foodborne pathogens in microfluidic biochips through isothermal DNA amplification and electrical detection; and the physical method for concentrating Salmonella to detectable levels using automated microfiltration. The latter technology was announced as the winning submission on July 22, 2015.
